Coach Barnhill brings seven years coaching experience, and a multitude of experience as a player. A standout athlete, herself, Coach Barnhill has served the EMS ISD school district since 2016 as a varsity assistant. She takes over a successful softball program from veteran varsity coach, Hank Fulkerson. Together the duo helped take Lady Rough Riders to the Regional Quarterfinal series and a 24-12-1 record for the 2016-17 season.
Coach Barnhill's coaching career began in 2011 at the University of Mississippi as a volunteer assistant to then head coach, Wendy Thees. In 2012, Coach Barnhill was the assistant women's softball coach at Grapevine Faith High School in Grapevine, TX. Additionally, she was the hitting and pitching instructor for softball at the D-BAT training facility in Southlake, TX during this time. From 2013-14 Barnhill was the pitching instructor at Slammers in Lakewood, CO while also serving Colorado Christian University as the assistant softball coach.
Coach Barnhill, former Division I standout, corralled numerous awards during her time as a player, including the 2007 Class 5A Player of the Year, EA Sports All-American and Texas Gatorade High School Player of the year, after posting a 29-3 record with a 0.06 ERA her senior year. Coach Barnhill set the state record with 1,715 strikeouts while hitting .488. She played softball for the University of Texas in the Big 12 Conference where she received a full athletic scholarship in 2007. During her time at UT, Barnhill made two Regional appearances. From there, she transferred to the University of Mississippi receiving All-American softball honors.
Coach Sarah Thomas is entering her 8th year of coaching at Saginaw High School. She is the Cross Country Head Coach and a Girls’ Softball Assistant Coach. Prior to coming to Saginaw, she taught and coached at Brewer High School and Polytechnic High School.
Coach Thomas grew up in Bells, Texas. She graduated from Bells High School prior to completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics at the University of North Texas.
Sarah is married to Nathan Thomas. They have a Yorkie named Ranger.
Coach Childs is entering his 14th year in education and coaching. Currently, Coach Childs is the football defensive coordinator, head powerlifting coach, and assistant softball coach. Before coming to Saginaw High School he coached at San Angelo Lake View (1 year), Smithville (9 years) and Flower Mound (2 years).
Coach Childs and his wife, Jennifer Childs, have two children. Mac, age 13, an 8th grader at Highland and Kirby, age 10, a 4th grader at High Country.
