2017-18 Coaches

Margaret Phillips

Head Coach - 3rd Season

This is Coach Phillips’ third year as head coach at Saginaw High School.  Coach Phillips coaches both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity tennis teams.

Coach Phillips grew up in Arlington, Texas and has lived in Euless, Texas for the past 22 years.  Coach Phillips is an avid tennis player.  In 2008, she began assisting the tennis pro for the City of Grapevine (the late Roger Williams) with his area drill classes and in 2011, she began teaching drill classes and private lessons on her own in Grapevine, Bedford, and Roanoke.  Additionally, Coach Phillips has taught tennis in the Tarrant County College for Kids program the last five summers.

After Coach Phillips began teaching tennis in 2011, she decided to go back to school to earn her degree so that she could pursue a career coaching tennis and teaching.  In 2015, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and a minor in history, and in December 2016, Coach Phillips earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on coaching at Texas Woman's University.  

Coach Phillips and her husband Mike have two daughters, Virginia and Katie.  Virginia and Katie both graduated from Colleyville Heritage High School. Katie (Phillips) Nuncio made the Varsity tennis team at Colleyville Heritage High School her freshman year and by the beginning of her sophomore year, surpassed several upperclassmen on the team to become the number 2 girl on the varsity team.

Under Coach Phillips, the Rough Rider tennis program has earned recognition as a USTA No Cut Program, and Coach Phillips has been recognized as a USTA No Cut Coach. Additionally, Coach Phillips is registered with the USTA as a USTA Net Generation provider. Coach Phillips is excited to begin the spring tennis season at Saginaw High School and looks forward to continuing to develop a highly competitive tennis program.

Ric Canterbury

Assistant Coach - 5th Season

Coach Canterbury grew up in the EMS-ISD and attended Blue Mound Elementary, Saginaw Elementary, Wayside Middle and W.E. Boswell High School.   He is married to Teresa, also a graduate of W.E. Boswell High School, and UNT. They have two children, Lesli (TSU) and Lance (TT). Both are graduates of W.E. Boswell High School. Coach Canterbury holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Angelo State University and a Masters of Education Administration from Tarleton State University.

Coach Canterbury started his coaching career at Azle ISD and has also coached in Birdville ISD, Irving ISD, and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.  He has coached Football, Basketball, Track, Baseball, and Tennis at the high school level. He was a teacher/coach at Boswell High School prior to becoming a school Administrator in the district.

This is Coach Canterbury's fifth year as the assistant coach at Saginaw High School. In the spring of 2014, he served as the interim coach and helped the Varsity to the 4-A Regional tournament, and during the same season, girls' singles finalist Domonique Garley represented the team at the State Tournament.
