For his success both off and on the field, Saginaw High School football player, senior Lane Ferguson, was named the 2018 Scholar Player of the Year for Community Service for the 2017 football season at the Sixth Annual 1st Down Club of Dallas-Fort Worth Awards Banquet at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Award recipients are selected from area schools by a selection committee made up of area coaches.
"I am very proud of Lane," Saginaw HS football coach Dane Johnson said. "It just shows you what a dedicated student athlete he is. He is a fine example of what you want to represent your progam and school."
Ferguson plans to use the scholarship accompanied with this award in college to major in mechanical engineering.
"I am very humble to receive such an award," Ferguson said. "It is a true honor just to be recognized by the 1st Down Club of DFW. The scholarship will really help me as I plan on attending either Texas A&M or Texas Tech University."
