Saginaw Tennis team traveled to Texas Christian University to participate in the annual District Tennis Tournament April 3-4, 2017.
The Rough Riders played very well during the tournament, showing a great deal of improvement and promise for the future of the program. Girls' A doubles, lost a tough match in the first round of the district tournament. Girls' B doubles lost an extremely close three set match to Boswell in the first round. Boys' B doubles lost a close match that went to a tie-break in the second set to Brewer. Boys' A doubles had an impressive win over Easton to advance to the quarter finals, but fell short in a close match against the Chisholm Trail who went on to won 3rd place in Boys Doubles. Girls' A singles fell to Aledo in the quarterfinals after shutting out Azle in the first round. Girls' B singles also fell to Aledo in the first round but played the best tennis she played all year! Both Boys singles lost in the first round as they both faced seeded players in the first round of play, however both of players improved. The Mixed Doubles' B team faced and lost to a top, seeded Aledo team in the first round, while our Mixed Doubles' A team suffered a heart breaking loss to Aledo in the semi-finals, completing an impressive year at 4th place in district.
Saginaw did not have anyone advance to Regionals this year, however Coach Phillips remains optimistic that this young team will continue to improve next season and in the seasons to come!
