The Saginaw Rough Rider golf team played in the Coyote Classic Invitational Golf Tournament, held at Canyon West Golf Club, on Monday November 10th, 2014. This event served as a great practice round for the team as Canyon West will be the site of our district (5-5A) tournament in the spring. Conditions were tough as wind gusts reached 30-40 mph making the day a true test of endurance and skill. The Rough Riders fought hard.
The Men's team finished 7th out of a 9 team field. The Rough Riders were led in scoring by senior Jaeson Soares, shooting 93. This was the third tournament of the fall season for Jaeson to lead the Rough Riders and, although disappointed after his round, the team continues to look to him for leadership. Rounding out the scoring for Saginaw (390) were sophomore Cole Vigil (96), senior Brian Kelly (98), and junior Preston McCoy (103). Winning the tournament was the team from Stephenville (347), followed by Graham (359), and Wichita Falls – Rider (359). The Rough Riders will be back in action on 12/1, playing in the Byron Nelson Fall Classic at Trophy Club CC, for their final tournament of the fall season.
The Women's team finished 2nd out of an 8 team field. The Rough Riders were led in scoring by senior Nicole Nguyen, shooting 91. This is Nicole's 4th season with the Saginaw golf team and she continues to post solid scores. This was round was her lowest of the fall season and the team will be counting on her continued improvement this spring. Rounding out the team score for the Rough Riders were junior Megan Stephenson (99), senior Paige DeBacco (101), and junior Cheyenne McCowen (116).
