Lady Rough Rider Golf Team Takes 3rd in District!

Girl's Golf - Tue, Mar. 29, 2016
The Rough Rider Ladies Golf Team wrapped up team play this week at the District 5-5A Golf Championship, which was held at Canyon West Golf Club in Weatherford.
After the first day of play, the Lady Rough Riders trailed Boswell and were tied for second place with Denton High School.  Leading day one scoring for the Rough Riders was, Freshman - Jade Staudt who posted an 84.  Following Staudt, in scoring was, Sophomore - Shelby Ferraccio, who shot 91.  Rounding out scoring for the team was, Senior - Cheyenne McCowen, Junior - Jaden Martinez, and Senior - Sarah Martinez.
Individually, Jade Staudt's score placed her second in the field and positioned her to play heads up against the tournament leader Savannah Battle of Boswell (83), Jessica Simants of Azle (84), and Emily Goff of Denton (87).
Day two was high drama.  The Rough Riders got out to a slow start but picked up as the day continued.  As the tournament leaders made the turn, Staudt and Goff (Denton) were locked in a duel.  With 9 holes to play, it was clear that it would come down to the final shot.  Jade birdied the 11th hole to take the lead only to see Emily Goff of Denton birdie 12.  Making bogey on 13 and a great par on 14 took the group to 15 where Jade made an incredible birdie from the greenside fringe.  That putt rattled the flagstick and her competition.  Jade finished the tournament with par on the Par 5 18th and went on to post the tournament low-round 78. With a two-day total of 162, Jade Staudt won the District 5-5A Championship by 5 shots.  Shleby Ferraccio finished in ninth place individually and garnered All-District Honors.
Collectively, the Saginaw Rough Rider Girls Golf Team, comprised of; Jade StaudtShelby FerraccioJaden Martinez and Chelsea Richison, and Cheyenne McCowen and Sarah Martinez, won 3rd place in District 5-5A.
Regional play will continue for Jade Staudt at the Rawls Course (Texas Tech) in Lubbock on April 13-14.
